As a result of the research activities conducted so far on “Development and analysis of innovative artificial biomembranes by ion irradiation to artificial synthetic materials” by Professor/M.D./Ph.D. Niitsuma Kuniyasu of the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery and TamaBio Co., Ltd., who announced the conclusion of a joint research agreement on July 29, 2022, we have obtained significant research results that exceed the initial hypothesis. In response to the progress of the research, we have extended the joint research agreement so far. From the various data obtained in this study, it has become possible to develop multiple innovative medical materials with excellent safety and effectiveness that incorporate the research results and apply them to regenerative medicine. Therefore, Tohoku University and TamaBio have entered into a new joint research agreement, strengthened the research promotion system, and will promote research and development. This research was started by focusing on the unique and excellent properties as a medical material of TamaBio’s ion-irradiated synthetic artificial dura mater “Durabeam🄬”, which has been used to complement brain dura mater defects at Tohoku University Hospital. As a result of our research, we hope to create innovative next-generation medical materials that can be applied to a wide range of biological tissues beyond the dura mater, and to increase the possibility of applying this to regenerative medicine. We aim to make this a reality in the future.
